Cost-effectiveness of Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Existing Coastal Reinforced Concrete Structures
Integrated axis
Study carried out by Emilio Bastidas-Arteaga and presented at the Seminar on Challenges in Strutural Safety and Risk Analysis that took place in May in Torino. The study points out that a few percent of corrosion acceleration caused by climate change can result in increased maintenance and considerable repair costs annually.
The images of the oil terminal of the harbour of Nantes - St Nazaire show the impact of corrosion on theses coastal structures. The latters are exposed to a splash and tidal zone.
The study shows that the effectiveness of these repair and protection strategies againt corrosion depends on specific exposure conditions, the construction and adaptation times.
